Wisteria flowers bloom from late spring into early summer. This was composed during the season when these blossoms were at their most beautiful, and the sight of their graceful swaying inspired both the title and the music itself.

The work is structured in three sections - slow, fast, and slow - but flowing beneath the entire piece is a consistent sense of a heart-aching blend of tenderness and melancholy. Beyond the formal contrasts, I would be delighted if listeners could also sense the subtle shifts of emotion drifting throughout the music.
