This piece was commissioned in 2024 by the Wind Ensemble of Ina Gakuen Comprehensive High School, Saitama, Japan. The word Composition in the title refers not only to musical writing but also to the structure of sentences, the layout of visual art, and the idea of assembling elements into a whole.
The piece develops from a flute scale presented at the beginning and the oboe theme that follows. There are times when, while casually observing the pages of a score, the flags on the notes appear to form visual patterns. Inspired by that imagery, I wrote this piece to evoke the impression of patterns delicately woven with the tone colors of woodwind instruments.
The rapid flute passage at the beginning may be performed freely within the note values indicated in parentheses above. From section F, if the portamento in the clarinet melody proves difficult, it may be omitted without problem.
