Commissioned by Brain Music, this flexible ensemble (June 2024) is to support students of small schools and bands in educational settings as well as general music enthusiasts.
El Dorado is the legendary city of gold from South American folklore, which became a catalyst for the exploration of the New World during the Age of Discovery in Europe. The legend particularly captivated the Spanish, and the first recorded search for El Dorado was conducted by Gonzalo Pizarro in 1541.
I composed this piece with a sense of longing and adventure towards the still-mysterious city of gold, drawing inspiration from its historical background to expand my imagination. I eagerly await your brilliant and unique performances that shine like gold.
[Performance Notes]
This piece can be performed with five or more parts. Parts 4 and 5, as well as percussion, are optional, so you may adjust according to your circumstances.
For small ensemble bands with multiple players per part, you might pursue a richer sound by omitting brass instruments doubling phrases and using only woodwinds. Additionally, the piece is designed to be enjoyable for ensembles of the same instrument family, such as clarinet-only or brass-only groups, so please create music that highlights the individuality of your ensemble.
There are measures where you can choose to play an octave higher or lower depending on the instrument. Performers are encouraged to make these decisions based on musical effect and technical considerations.
[H] solo is playable other parts.
