Composed as part of the series by Yumi Terada Percussion Ensemble "Drive," devoted to percussion ensemble development by Japanese composers active in wind orchestra. The piece was recorded and released on the group's CD "Drive V" in 2023. This project started in 2005 at the suggestion of Ms. Terada, with the main purpose of "developing repertoire for junior high and high school students as well as general fans of wind orchestra". I have also composed the percussion quintet "Bacchanal" and the percussion quartet "Spiritual" (published by Brain). The sequel to that work is a percussion trio. Though I am known for melodies, I dared not use any mallet percussion and large instruments (timpani, bass drum and others) to avoid borrowing a truck for only three players, so that they could transport instruments in a car. I composed this piece under such restrictions. For the title, I used "Drive" as a tribute to Dr. Terada, who has continued the project for a long time, and "Spectrum" to pursue a colorful tone.
