Folk Spell was written by request of the Mishima City Minami Junior High School Band (Mr. Miyuki Ochiai, conductor) in 2021, and premiered at ensemble contest by seven members. More than half of the members were first-year students at the time, but they practiced hard together, with the upperclassmen taking the lead, and gave a wonderful performance on stage with a sense of unity. This version is a flexible edition of the piece.
Despite the title, it is not a specific ethnic or religious piece. I named it as such because I felt something earthly in the power of the sound.
Through the performance of the piece, players will learn various playing techniques such as tonguing control, long tones, and how to make the instrument resonate, etc. The piece also has the character of an exercise piece.
This work is ideal for concert and contest as well as fundamental practice.
