This work expresses "Passion" in various song styles utilizing the highly expressive tone of the saxophone. The work is voiced as a trio, essentially a quartet minus tenor, though I tried to avoid a thin resonance, having you feel the enjoyment of a small ensemble with the lively sound of a trio having a lighter flavor than a quartet. The work is constructed in three parts. It begins with the character of rapid motion by sixteenth notes, the middle part includes passion and inner sorrow performed with deep feeling, and it vibrantly concludes in quick 5/4 time. An important performance point will be how well you understand and express "blue notes" used in many places, especially in the middle section. Excitement should be very deliberate, making good use of articulation in the up-tempo sections. An exciting, bright and lively sound is expected.(Shin'ya Takahashi)
