Commissioned by the Naniwa Orchestral Winds, April, 2008. While working on the piece, I contacted director Mr. Nobuyuki Kanai numerous times via email. "What musical form do you want?" "What duration?" "What would be a good title?" Mr. Kanai had a specific vision. I was surprised and at the same time impressed with his concept. It was most enjoyable being able to work with such a great ensemble and leader. It was like the collaboration of film director and score composer. As the title suggests, the name dedicates this piece to a fabulous ensemble, with the utmost of respect. (As mentioned, Mr. Kanai helped me with the title.) The work expresses the joy of creating music. You cannot see the staging during the CD recording [Naniwa "Orchestral" Winds 2008 (BOCD-7187)] but random ad lib music starts without the conductor present. The conductor then walks on stage when the horn, tenor and bass instruments unify into a majestic introduction (there is applause on the CD). Any section may start this introduction. Be free of tempo and as expressive as possible.
