Originally commissioned for brass octet by Tamagawa Academy Wind Orchestra as an ensemble contest piece, Toward the Fair with Sweetheart on a Fine Day has been adapted for flexible ensemble. Although intended as a contest piece, the director, Mr. Tsuchiya, envisioned a piece that embodied the personality of his ensemble while remaining easy to understand and enjoyable to perform. The director hoped the composition would be "a bright and fun work that does not make you think about the serious contest."

The song begins with a vision of daybreak followed by sweethearts embracing the clear sky on a fine day as they journey to the fair. Each part draws simply on the feelings of the scene allowing the listener to partake in this lovely outing.
