Mouvement Concertante was commissioned by Sakaigi Jr. High School (Kanagawa, Japan)

When creating this piece, I kept in mind that each section is featured and co-responsive. Mouvement Concertante means a shortish piece possessing various characteristics.

The work consists of three definitive sections: prelude, development and melodic part, for which each section is strongly contrasted.

In the prelude, various solos appear in phrases defined by strong percussion calls. Clarinet tremolos and shimmering metal percussion create a fluctuating environment that presents changing colors such as chattering tree leaves and reflections of light on water amongst diverging solos.

The main body is in quick ternary meter; triple and light 6/8 (duple meter) are intentionally interwoven to create an alternating pulse. The accented counter-line motive from measure 45 has a strong influence in this section.

The last section is a reflective melody in Eb Major that flows through to the end. After a rapid and intense coda, the piece ends abruptly.
