Luna Park - there are amusement parks of this name around the world. Some of them opened as early as early 1900's. While some have closed, I wonder how many children (and adults) enjoyed them.
This piece, "Luna Park," is inspired by the amusement park. It features fanfare-like motifs that might be heard at the entrance, a lively and exciting 2/4 + 3/8 rhythm, and waltz-like motifs of a merry-go-round. The more leisurely motif in the middle section may represent a scene where one stops and gazes at the sunset.

The commission request was something "bright, joyful, and energetic." I would like that both the audience and performers enjoy the piece.

Commissioned by Brass Ensemble Togo in the summer of 2017 and premiered on November 19, 2017.
