Holst's First Suite in Eb was requested by and written for seven euphonium and tuba players of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Central Band for its 44th chamber winds concert. Arranging one of the best known, all-time classics was a new adventure for me, especially for the odd number of seven players. The journey was challenging, but still held the joy of working with a world masterpiece. I intended to keep the original atmosphere of the piece while emphasizing the skill of each individual. Hopefully this rendition will become a standard in the euphonium and tuba ensemble literature.
