Elite Syncopations is a work centered around the ragtime numbers of Scott Joplin, with choreography by McMillan, performed by the Royal Ballet of Britain. It depicts men and women gathered at a social venue, showcasing dances one after another to the melodies of ragtime. Scott Joplin, an African-American composer from the United States, is a renowned musician and composer famous for his ragtime compositions, often referred to as the "King of Ragtime." Ragtime is characterized by its "oom-pah" accompaniment, similar to marches, with syncopated melodies that create a lively rhythm, primarily performed on the piano. This piece has been arranged for a trio of two saxophones and a piano. Initially, it stays close to the original, exuding an elegant and leisurely feel, but gradually becomes more jazz-like, incorporating improvisations (which are written in the score). It's a delightful arrangement that oscillates between ragtime and swing jazz. This piece is ideal for opening concerts or similar events.
