This work was composed in April 2006, commissioned by "Vive! Saxophone Quartet", following the composition of "Novellette for Saxophone Quartet" in 2005. "Heat Haze" refers to the transparent heat waves which can be seen on a sandy beach or field on a fine spring day. This phenomenon happens when the air or ground is heated, and the air density becomes imbalanced so that light waves passing through are irregularly refracted. The vision of heat haze dancing like a creature is depicted with tonal and rhythmic figures. You will best enjoy the performance if you freely imagine such a scene. I hope this work will satisfy many musicians, especially ambitious junior and senior high school students.
