Printed set (Score & Parts)
For nearly half a century since my introduction to wind band music, various pieces I encountered in elementary, junior high, and high school continue to resonate deeply within me. The experience of discovering a piece of music, much like meeting new friends, become an essential chapter in my life. As I set out to create a "piece for school band" I felt responsible as a creator while also drawing inspiration from my school band experience.
"Introduction and Allegro" has two parts, slow and fast. I aimed for musical simplicity, avoiding use of specific images beyond the title, allowing performers to freely expand their imagination while shaping the overall flow of the music.
In current times, which can feel quite restrictive, I embedded a heartfelt message for young players: to study carefully and, eventually, move forward with enthusiasm.
In terms of performance, the focus should be on harmony and collaboration. This is quintessential to wind music; whether it's melody, harmony, or background patterns, the realization that each part is indispensable to the whole is crucial. By fully understanding the role of each part in various sections and performing accordingly, I hope the collective consciousness will reveal a strong direction and clear shape in the music.
