"Genesis" was composed in 2020 as the third test piece for the 2022 All Japan Band Competition. It received its premiere recording on April 14, 2021, at Wako City Sun Azalea Hall, conducted by Tsuyoshi Oi and performed by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra.

Changes from the original version:
Minor modifications in articulations, etc.
Expanded horn section to four parts.
Removal of optional instrument notation.
For point 3, it's worth noting that even in the competition version, the piece was composed as a "hybrid score," allowing it to be performed regardless of the number of musicians. Hence, optional instruments were not specified. The piece can be played with a small ensemble.

This work employs the idea of thinking in terms of "voices" rather than "parts." Additionally, the composition explores relationships between F major and E-flat major, cadences and phrases, and inner and outer voices being equally important (instead of focusing solely on the main melody). Section [B] introduces varied expressions upon repetition, while section [H] is intended to show the most intensity. However, beyond all these technical aspects, my hope is that this piece will expand your musical horizons.

Performance Notes

Measure 6 (Trb.3/Euph.): You may consider the notes within parentheses, ensuring that Trb.3 and Euph. don't play the same pitch.
Tuba: If there are two or more players, perform divisi. If there is only one player, follow the standard note heads but feel free to play the smaller notes according to your ability.
