Printed set (Score & Parts)
In 2021, the 14th Band of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force commissioned a piece about their home base, Zentsuji City, in Kagawa Prefecture.
Kagawa is known for its natural beauty, udon noodles, Mt. Kompirayama, Nasu no Yoichi's famous bow, and more.
When looking at the Shikoku region consisting of Kagawa Prefecture and three other states, one might think of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, which inspired the piece.
If you go around in the order of the 88Temples, you will find Awa (the place of spiritual awakening), Tosa (the place of training), Iyo (the place of bodhi), Sanuki (the place of bodhi), and so on.
The work has four sections: slow, fast, slow, and fast.
The request came from a trombonist friend in the Band, and the latter part features the trombone section. I hope you will enjoy sharing the musical message with your audiences.
