Commissioned by Clarinet Ensemble of Soka Gloria Wind Orchestra for ensemble contest, 2001. "Pele" is the name of the goddess of fire who lives in a volcano and appears in Hawaiian folk tales. She often appears to humans in the form of a woman, attracting men with her beauty. Also known for her selfishness and competitiveness, she quickly explodes the wrath of the volcano when she doesn't get her way. She does have human character with her free-spirited beauty.
The song is not a concrete expression of the folk tales, but is likened to Pele's character and should be played with the thought in mind of her explosive nature.
It is roughly divided into two parts. In the first half, her beauty can be seen between fragmented gaps. The second half is based on dances. Important phrases are assigned to each section. Leading voices are shown by the marks of
