Commissioned in 2012 by the Tokyo Elementary School Band Association for their 10th Anniversary Band Fair, the music was revised and minor changes were made in instrumentation for publication.
The title suggests this is a march, based on five famous Japanese "mother goose" or nursery rhymes: "Zui Zui Zukkorobashi", "Sakura Sakura", "Tow-Ryang-Say", "Oedo Nihonbashi", and "Antagata Dokosa". As video games have taken over children's recreation time, many of these songs have been forgotten. However, nursery rhymes and songs passed down from generation to generation are a very important part of culture and should be kept alive.
The music's imagery is of children in the Edo period being outside, having great fun singing and playing nursery rhymes and games. Its performance should reflect this energetic atmosphere filled with innocent smiles. Instrumentation is accessible for both wind band and brass band. Great for either opening or ending a concert, many people young and old will enjoy this piece.
