Paul Linke (1866-1946) is a German composer considered to be the "the father of Berlin operetta". Also, "Berliner Luft" from "Frau Luna" is an unofficial city song of Berlin.
Linke's masterpiece "Frau Luna" was composed in 1899 and premiered at the Apollo Theater in Berlin. The scene of the story is Berlin and the Moon World. As a balloon was the only means of flying that time, this is a love story that begins with the adventurers of Berlin going to the Moon World and being warmly welcomed by Mrs. Luna, the matron.
In this arrangement, "Melodram" "Festmarsch" "Last den kopf nicht hangen" "Von Sternen umgeben" "Im Express-Ballon" "Ist die Welt auch noch so schon" "Schlosser, die im Monde liegen" and "Berliner Luft" were chosen and variously arranged. Some are held close to the original, others are arranged freely using melodic excerpts.
