Initially, I intended to write tranquil music. Then, I aimed to create a piece in which the individual organisms, while maintaining their autonomy, remain interconnected, breathing together, and weaving a multi-layered, dreamlike sound that makes the most of the clarinet's character.
The four clarinets, each given its own pentatonic scale, begin introspectively from silence, and in the twilight echoes they create, are influenced by each other's melody and movement, gradually increasing intensity and attempting to make the next transition. Finally, as the bass clarinet shifts a semitone from its own pentatonic position, it triggers the molecular activity of the music, which reaches a boiling point with the use of overlapping notes and bisbigliando (a single pitch trill with alternate fingerings) used to diversify the sound. After that, the four pieces, which have undergone chemical changes and share each other's DNA, acquire a common locular melody and return to the world of silence. In the end, in order to express serene beauty, it was necessary to depict the opposite boiling point as well.
The four members of the Liberte Clarinet Quartet can take anything I give them. So I was able to write whatever and however I wanted. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to the four seniors of the group.
