The 5th Symphony is one of Mahler's most famous and beloved compositions. From this symphony, the fourth movement may be the most frequently performed work. It was used in the 1971 Luchino Visconti film Death in Venice. Scored only for strings and harp and often performed as an independent work, the beautiful melody and sentimental harmony clearly convey feelings of affection. This arrangement was made for Saitama Sakae High School Wind Orchestra's 39th Regular Concert. The expressiveness, colorful timbres, dynamic extremes and elongated phrasings in the woodwinds (flutes, clarinets, and saxophones), from the original string parts, are of extreme importance.
